How much a brand identity costs and what it should include
A professional logo starts at US$50; an essential identity with palette, type and a guide, at US$150; a brand system with guidelines and applications, at US$350. The price depends on how many places the brand has to work in.
The price of an identity depends on how many places it has to work. A new business selling on Instagram doesn't need the same thing as a company with trucks, uniforms and tenders.
The three levels we use
| Level | Price | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Logo | US$50 | 3 to 5 business days |
| Essential identity | US$150 | 7 to 10 business days |
| Brand system | US$350 | 3 weeks |
What it should include at minimum
- Main logo, horizontal version, icon and one-colour version.
- A palette with colour codes, plus typefaces.
- Files for print, web and social, including a vector.
- A short guide so anyone can use it correctly.
When you need the full system
When your brand appears on many surfaces and several people use it: fleets, job sites, uniforms, stationery, tenders or several business lines. The guidelines stop each vendor from interpreting it their own way.
What to check before hiring
Ask to see the logo in use, not just on white. A logo gets tested on an invoice, on a storefront and at 40 pixels on a profile. See how we do it in our portfolio of 46 identities and the packages under brand identity.
What makes an identity cost more
- Number of applications. Every extra item (van, uniform, packaging, sign) has to be designed and tested.
- Several business lines. A parent brand with sub-brands needs rules so they can live together.
- A name that doesn't exist yet. Finding one that's available and can be registered is a separate job.
- Urgency. Rush delivery costs 25% more.
Cheap that ends up expensive
A template or contest logo can get you started. The trouble comes later: no vector file, it looks like a hundred others, nobody knows its typeface and it falls apart in one-colour print. Redoing it once it's on trucks and invoices costs far more than doing it right at the start.
How to compare branding quotes
- How many proposals and how many rounds of changes?
- Do you get the logo as a vector, plus PNG and JPG?
- Does it include horizontal, icon and one-colour versions?
- Do they show the logo applied to real items?
- Is there a usage guide, even a short one?
Registering the name as a trademark is a separate process, with its own fees in each country.
